Toledo Community Foundation (various deadlines)

Through the generosity of many individuals, families and businesses, scholarships are awarded on an annual basis from philanthropic funds which have been established with Toledo Community Foundation. These awards assist local students in their pursuit of higher education.

Toledo Community Foundation manages over 160 scholarship funds. Although we offer scholarships from over 160 individual funds, those listed here represent only the scholarships for which Toledo Community Foundation is the contact for making application.

Elks Most Valuable Student

The Elks National Foundation will award 500 four-year scholarships to the highest-rated applicants in the 2017 competition.
  • Any high school senior who is a citizen of the United States is eligible to apply.
  • Applicants need not be related to a member of the Elks.
  • College students are not eligible to apply.
  • Applicants must be citizens of the United States on the date their applications are signed; permanent legal resident status does not qualify.
  • Male and female students compete separately.

The 2018 Most Valuable Student scholarship contest is open to any high school senior who is a US Citizen. Applicants will be judged on scholarship, leadership, and financial need. Applications for the 2018 contest will be available online starting in September

Application

The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation College Scholarship

The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation College Scholarship Program is an undergraduate scholarship program available to high-achieving high school seniors with financial need who seek to attend and graduate from the nation's best four-year colleges and universities. Selected from a nationwide pool of applicants, up to 40 students will become Jack Kent Cooke Scholars and have access to funding for up to four years for undergraduate studies.  Each award is intended to cover a significant share of the student’s educational expenses – including tuition, living expenses, books and required fees. Awards vary by individual, based on the cost of tuition as well as other grants or scholarships he or she may receive. 

At a minimum, applicants must:

  • Plan to graduate from a US high school in spring 2017
  • Intend to enroll in an accredited four-year college beginning in fall 2017
  • Earn a cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.5 or above
  • SAT combined critical reading and math score of 1200 (based on the old SAT scores) or above and/or ACT composite score of 26 or above
  • Demonstrate significant unmet financial need. We will consider applicants with family income up to $95,000. However, we anticipate that a majority of scholarship recipients will be eligible to receive a Pell grant

Judith Herb Scholarship

The University of Toledo Herb Scholars Program is the most prestigious scholarship awarded by the Judith Herb College of Education.  The scholarship honors Judith Herb and her family who, along with The University of Toledo, recognize, encourage and support teachers of the future as they make their way into classrooms that will educate and mentor the leaders of tomorrow.

The Herb Scholars Program is valued at a full-time, in-state undergraduate tuition and general fees (up to 16 hours per semester), room and board for up to eight semesters of undergraduate enrollment.  The scholarship is renewable, subject to scholarship policies and requirements and continued progress in an education major.  The projected value of this scholarship exceeds $82,000.

Selection criteria for the Herb Scholars Program includes ACT/SAT test scores, high school GPA, high school transcript, resume, completed scholarship application, essay, letters of recommendation, and a completed application for admission to The University of Toledo in the Judith Herb College of Education.  Please see the attached application for further details.  Selected finalists are invited to the UT campus for a personal interview.

Minimum requirements to apply include a high school cumulative GPA of 3.4 (based on six semesters of high school performance) and a 21 ACT composite or 980 SAT combined reading and math score (from a single test date).  In addition to a review of the high school transcript and test scores, transfer students (15 credits or more) must have a cumulative college GPA of 3.0.   Eligible candidates must pursue a degree in the field of education.  Preference will be given to candidates who express interest in teaching mathematics, science, special education or in urban environments.  Scholarships, however, are not restricted to these areas.

Burger King Scholarship

High School seniors, Burger King employees, their dependent children, are eligible to receive up to $50,000 in scholarships.

Rove Pest Control Scholarship

This is offered to the class of 2019! Applicants for this scholarship must be attending college by the Fall 2019 semester and have a minimum 3.0 GPA. This scholarship is open to anyone seeking a degree but special consideration will be given to anyone majoring in entomology. GE Reagan Foundation Scholarship Program

The program selects roughly 20 college-bound students who excel in leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship to receive up to $10,000 scholarships.

Science and Math Education in ACTION at BGSU offers 4-year scholarships and also provides innovative opportunities to prepare the best science and mathematics teachers in the State of Ohio.  If you are a high school senior considering teaching either (a) middle school science and math (grades 4-9), (b) high school science, or (c) high school mathematics, then the ACTION Program may be for you!

2017 ROBERT KUMPE MEMORIAL COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

The Scholarship is open to anyone currently enrolled in college or who will be entering college in Fall, 2017. A complete Application Form (see attached) and required information. An official high school and/or college transcript.  ACT/SAT scores, GPA and class ranking must be included. You must have played Soccer in High School to be considered for this scholarship.   A typed essay in 500 words or less on the following topic:

P.E.O. Chapter I, Marguerite Woman's Scholarship

The Ohio Marguerite Women’s Scholarship is available to local young women of the 2018 graduating class from high schools in the attendance area of our members.

P.E.O. Chapter I is looking for a scholarship recipient with the following qualifications:

  • Is diligent in her pursuit of a college education;
  • Does not restrict herself to a single-minded focus on academics;
  • Contributes her talents for the goodwill and benefit of others;
  • Is interested in growth and learning beyond the confines of the classroom;
  • Collaborates and works with other women;
  • Realizes the importance of her school grades; and
  • Maintains a minimum 3.0 grade point average (“GPA”).

I’ve attached P.E.O. Chapter I Scholarship application.  Instructions for completing the application are as follows:

  1. Student completes the 2-page application using her own handwriting;
  2. Student provides her GPA (space provided on the application);
  3. Student obtains her Counselor’s signature, as verification for her GPA, on the space provided on the application;
  4. Student provides one (1) letter of reference from a non-family member; and
  5. Scan the completed 2-page application and the reference letter, and attach them to email; and

Charles L. Warren Memorial Heritage Scholarship

Students from underrepresented populations with a grade point average of a 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale who are in a college preparatory curriculum are eligible to compete for the scholarships. The students must also plan to attend an Ohio college or university. They will need to submit their completed application along with their personal statement, high school transcript, and the guidance counselor recommendation (which must be signed by the counselor). Please note that students may also submit a recommendation from a teacher, clergy or someone who has worked with them through a community organization.

Robert C. Romans Biological Science Scholarship

Scholarship recognizes incoming freshmen students from local high schools to pursue an education and a subsequent career in the biological sciences. Eligibility: Entering freshman.

Criteria: Entering freshman from Wood County, Ohio schools. Shall declare major in biological sciences.
Minimum 3.0 GPA in high school.

Biological Sciences Alumni Scholarship

Scholarship recognizes an outstanding high school senior who has been admitted to BGSU with a major in the biological sciences.

Criteria: High school GPA 3.5 and composite ACT score of 26 or above.

Owens Community College Foundation Scholarship

These scholarships are available each academic year and are subject to available funding.

*Scholarships based on financial need require the submission of a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). See the application for further information.  Take time to read the eligibility requirements on the second page of the application and  make sure you qualify for at least one of the scholarships

The Board of Trustees Scholarship is $1,000 per semester for up to four consecutive semesters. The scholarship begins in fall semester; summer enrollment is optional. All awards are based upon available funding.

Students who will be enrolling at Owens in the fall semester immediately after graduating from a high school in the Owens legal district, and who have a high school GPA of 3.7 or above, must submit official high school transcripts on or after January 1 of their senior year to be considered.

In addition, students who meet one of the following qualifications may apply for the scholarship by submitting the Board of Trustees Scholarship -- Nomination Form.

  • A high school senior attending a high school located in the Owens legal district, who has a high school GPA of 3.0 - 3.69, demonstrates student motivation, and enrolls in the fall semester immediately following high school graduation.
  • A high school graduate, who has not been in high school for at least one year, or a GED recipient (applicants may not have attended Owens for at least one year); resides in the Owens legal district; demonstrates motivation through exceptional work or public/community service (including military service), academic performance, other demonstrated leadership, or other experience as related to a career path; and enrolls for the fall semester immediately following the award of the scholarship.

All recipients must meet the following criteria:

  • Apply for admission to Owens as a regular student
  • Pursue a degree or certificate with the intent to complete at Owens Community College
  • Maintain full-time enrollment at a minimum of twelve credit hours each semester
  • Maintain a 3.0 cumulative grade point average to continue eligibility for each semester at Owens, for a maximum of four total consecutive semesters (summer optional)

  • Be high school seniors, high school graduates, or current postsecondary undergraduate students.
  • Plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited four-year college or university based in the U.S. or Puerto Rico for the entire 2016-17 academic year. Proprietary and online schools are not eligible.
  • Plan to major in a specified course of study that focuses on Engineering, Technology, Design or other programs of study related to the automotive industry.
  • Demonstrate an interest in pursuing a career in the automotive or related industries using these areas of study.

Safety Patrol

The AAA Safety Patrol Scholarship is open to any high school senior who served as a AAA School Safety Patroller in Northwest Ohio.  Applicants must show documented proof of AAA Safety Patrol participation, good academic standing and a strong record of participation in community and extracurricular activities. Applications are reviewed by a AAA committee. One recipient will be chosen to receive a $1,000 scholarship to use towards higher education studies.

William D. Squires Scholarship

William D. Squires Scholarship applicants must be high school seniors from Ohio but may attend colleges outside of Ohio.  Our recipients are attending 30 different colleges with 11 at Ohio State University during the 2016-2017 school year.

The William D. Squires Scholarship is primarily financial need-based, but ideal applicants have already selected a career goal and are highly motivated to reach their goal.  The Scholarship Selection Committee also considers each student’s academic promise
