Jay Berschback Visits Eagle Point Fourth Grade
On Tuesday, January 12, Jay Berschback visited the fourth grade classes at Eagle Point School to share information with them about weather, the water cycle, and the states of matter of water. Mr. Berschback is a meteorologist for 13abc News, and makes frequent visits to classrooms. In his presentation, Mr. Berschback addressed the fourth grade Science state standards for Earth Systems, and discussed fronts, high pressure systems and low pressure systems, jet streams, clouds, and the water cycle. When Jay Berschback discussed the water cycle, the fourth graders were fascinated to learn that the water we use today is the same water the dinosaurs drank thousands of years ago. He also showed the fourth graders different weather instruments and discussed how the instruments are used. Mr. Berschback explained how he became interested in meteorology and how the production of a television broadcast occurs. Students were able to ask questions about tornadoes and hurricanes and how meteorologists forecast the weather. Before he left, Jay Berschback introduced the students to his pet tornado, George. To show their appreciation, the students made thank you cards for Jay Berschback telling him what they learned and how much they had enjoyed his visit, and presented him with a gift bag that included one of our new Eagle Point t-shirts;
“Home of the EXCELLENT Eagles.” Please check out the pictures on this page.
