Message from Superintendent Creps: Update on District's Facilities

Dear Families, Employees and Community Members,

I would like to express, on behalf of Rossford Schools, our gratitude for the community’s support on Election Day. This adds a new chapter to our success at Rossford Schools and will provide students and faculty with 21st century learning environments for generations to come. Following, please find a brief update regarding the renovation and replacement of our school district’s facilities.

The Plan

A 6-12 grade facility will be developed on the current downtown site and all pre-kindergarten through 5th grade elementary students will be located at the Glenwood site. At the downtown site, a central administration facility is planned that will be connected to the 6-12 school to consolidate the district at two site locations. The downtown plans include total remodeling of the original 1922 high school portion combined with new additions. The Board is exploring options to divest Eagle Point and Indian Hills.  Please click the link to the right to view the plans:  CONCEPTUAL PLANS

The Timeline

Planning and design will take place during the next 12-14 months with involvement by school personnel and the Planning Committee to include selected students and members of the community. Construction will begin after the design is finalized and the bids are received, with all work scheduled for completion by July 2020. If there are elements of the project that make sense to complete prior to the anticipated spring 2018 start, we will look to begin them sooner if possible. For instance, improvements could potentially start by the summer of 2017 with football stadium upgrades. Roadway and/or site improvements could also begin when school is out in May 2017; however, major construction renovations and additions are anticipated to begin in March 2018. A full timeline will be released once it is complete and we anticipate that the timeline will continue to evolve with the project.

Sale of the Bonds

At its November 21 meeting, the Board of Education and community members heard a presentation from our financial advisor describing the steps the Board will need to take in order for the district to collect the funds for the project, which will include collecting an initial dedicated $10 million to provide funds to begin surveying and site preparation.  Most important, this Board action allows us to take advantage of a favorable interest rate and reap significant savings.

Project Delivery Method

Our Facilities Committee—made up of district administrators, Board and community members—will meet within the next three weeks to investigate the different construction delivery methods to make a recommendation that best meets our needs. Once this is determined, we will then begin the process of selecting a contractor. We plan to have these steps accomplished in early 2017.

2020 and Beyond

Once the building projects are complete, annual operational savings are targeted at over $4.2 million, primarily due to the reduction of district operated sites and replacing inefficient systems and finishes.

I encourage you to contact me with any questions you may have by calling 419-666-2010 or emailing dcreps@rossfordschools.org. We will continue to provide information throughout this exciting process.
