Updating District Transportation Guidelines

Dear Rossford Schools Parents/Guardians,

We are updating our transportation forms and guidelines, which you will find below.  These revisions will assist parents and school personnel with advanced planning and will help account for how our students are transported to and from home safely.

Parents/guardians will continue to be able to choose whether their child will be picked up by a parent, sent to the Community Learning Center (CLC), ride the bus home, or go to one (1) alternate location (e.g., grandparent’s home).  A child can go to any of the locations above on any given day of the week; however, the schedule will need to remain consistent from week-to-week.  As one example, your child rides the bus home Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays and attends CLC Tuesdays and Thursdays. The child will follow this same schedule from one week to the next. A second example could have your child riding the bus home on Tuesdays and Thursdays and using the one (1) permitted alternate to ride to the childcare provider’s location on Mondays Wednesdays and Fridays. There will only be one, allowable alternate location.

The new guidelines and consistent schedule will make it easier on the student, teacher, and bus driver to know exactly where the student is going on any given day of the week.

Additionally, last-minute notes or calls to schools sending students to different locations will no longer be an option.  This practice is being discontinued as some days one building receives between thirty and forty requests, compromising safety and creating uncertainty for students and staff alike. Our students and their safety is our top priority and we thank you for your understanding.

In the rare case of an emergency, when a parent has no other option but to change the student’s transportation means due to the situation, the parent will need to contact the school office before noon for alternate transportation arrangements. In emergency situations where office notification is not made by noon, the family will need to make arrangements to have someone meet the student at the previously planned drop-off location.

In the rare and unusual case where the week-to-week plan needs changed at some point during the school year (e.g., daycare facility no longer an option), please contact our Transportation Department at 419-666-8695 for the necessary adjustments.

Thank you for your attention and assistance with these adjustments being made to ensure the safety of our students. These guidelines will continue to provide flexibility for families while fulfilling the need to strengthen student safety measures by adding a greater degree of consistency to the district’s transportation system. If you should have any questions or need additional clarification, please contact your child’s building principal.

This information and forms (available below) will all be delivered via mail to homes to ensure that advanced planning can take place.
