Adjusted School Lunch Guidelines

Dear Rossford Schools Community,

After the release of new USDA guidelines and careful review of our policy and procedures with our food service program we want to share adjustments being made as a result.

In the past we provided ‘emergency meals’ for students who surpassed the district determined charge limit. The USDA advised against this practice, and recommends reimbursed lunches are provided instead. This has no effect for students who qualify for free lunches.

To accommodate the USDA guidelines, after a student exceeds his or her charge amount a ham and cheese sandwich, milk, fruit, and vegetable lunch will be provided at a discounted rate. The discounted rate for elementary students will be $ 0.75 ($0.20 for students on reduced lunches) while the discounted junior high and high school rate will be $1.00 ($0.30 for students on reduced lunches). The difference in discounted rates is due to portion sizes.

The district has established the following charge limits. The elementary charge limit will be $13, and the junior high and high school charge limit will be $15. These limits provide roughly five meals for a student while providing time for families to meet cost obligations. It is important to note that a la carte items cannot be charged. Milk is an allowable charge.

When any account enters into a negative balance an ‘I Owe You’ note will go home with the child to remind parents. After $6 in charges, a phone call will be made to notify parents. Once an account nears the charge limit, another phone call will be made to notify parents.

For accounting purposes, charges are not allowed after May 15.

To receive notifications when their child’s lunch accounts are running low at https://www.k12paymentcenter.com/. Account history, prepay, automatic payments, and notifications are also available here.

Thank you for your cooperation with our new guidelines that align with USDA measures.
