District Facilities Update (Feb. 2, 2018)

Dear Rossford School District Families,

As previously reported, Rossford School District officials have been in ongoing discussions with representatives from Owens Community College to temporarily relocate our high school students to the Owens campus in Perrysburg Township during the downtown construction phase. This temporary arrangement will begin with the start of the upcoming 2018-2019 school year and will remain in place until our high school students move back into the renovated/new facilities in January 2020. The Board met again on Friday, February 2, 2018, to discuss the progress of these discussions. We are pleased to share that the Board provided unanimous support to continue moving forward with this arrangement for our high school students. The Board will convene again at its regular meeting on Monday, February 12 to consider finalizing this process.

We also are excited to share some new information with families as we continue a comprehensive review of the district project. Beginning with the start of the 2018-2019 school year, our junior high students (grades 6-8) and staff will attend classes at the former Indian Hills Elementary, located at 401 Glenwood Road, Rossford. This, too, will be a temporary arrangement at Indian Hills for these students and staff. They will also move back to the renovated/new grades 6-12 campus at the downtown location in January 2020. We have started to plan the needed conversions with our architects and builder for this to occur.

It was initially planned that our Rossford Junior High School students would stay in the current facility. District officials and the board of education believe moving the junior high school students to Indian Hills will be in the best interest of the educational process.

Our central office administration, currently working out of the Indian Hills location, will be moving out of the building to accommodate our grades 6-8 students and staff. This plan will remove students and staff entirely from the downtown site during demolition and construction, thus minimizing disruption and distractions to the learning process while also helping to offset project costs.

While we are still finalizing plans we appreciate your patience and understanding. Since this update was supported by the board today we wanted to share it with the community, but plans are still being completed.

Respectfully

Dan Creps
