Welcome to Glenwood Elementary School!
February 01, 2010
Principal's Corner
The week of March 8th, 2010; the 6th graders will leave Rossford and will arrive at Camp Michindoh for a weekl ong adventure. The students are getting very excited for this opportunity. At camp, they will make new friends, have different opportunities to learn, and be outdoors all at once. Some of the classes that the students will participate in are learning about reptiles and amphibians, how to survive in the wilderness, team-building activities, early settlers, and much more! They will also have the chance to climb a rock-climbing wall.
As a reminder to the parents, please have the students at Glenwood at 8:30 Monday morning on March 8th, 2010. They will need to report to the gymnasium, check in with their homeroom teacher, and line their luggage up so the packing of the busses will go smoothly. We ask the parents to please include all medical supplies in a large Ziploc bag labeled with the student name. It is important that the students wear their boots, gloves, and winter hats and not pack them into their luggage. Parents may also pick their students up on Friday, March 12, 2010, at approximately 1 p.m.
If you would like to write to your child, you may send the mail to: Camp Michindoh, 4545 E. Bacon Rd., Hillsdale, MI 49242. When writing your child, please put the school and child's name on the back of the envelope. We are excited for another great year. Mr. Dorn will again post various pictures of camp on his teacher website which can be accessed through the Glenwood Homepage. Pictures will be updated every evening. Scott Dorn, 6th grade teacher
Attending Camp Michindoh is a unique and exciting opportunity for all Rossford students. While many schools have had to eliminate these kinds of programs, we still think they provide valuable lessons that cannot be replicated in a regular classroom. Even if you do not have a 6th grader this year, it is not too early to start planning for this trip. Pay attention to the list of things they will need, you don't want to have to do all your shopping at the last minute. Start saving or having your kids save money to go. It costs $160 this year to attend. We offer a fundraiser for grades 4-6 in the winter, some of our kids will earn enough to go without paying anything out of pocket. Many parents budget by paying in several installments. Have your kids spend a night or two away from home. A "sleep over" could be fun, even it it's just at grandma's house. This will get them used to being away from you a little and prevent homesickness in 6th grade. Call us if you have any questions about the camp experience.
