RHS SOS Club Sponsors Holiday Care Package Drive

December 5-16, 2016

The Rossford High School SOS Club is sponsoring a Holiday Care Package Drive from December 5-16 to replenish supplies for “Show Them We Care” at All Saints Church in Rossford, which sends monthly care packages to local soldiers serving overseas. Rossford Schools Book Club Receives Grant

The Rossford Junior/Senior High Library received a grant of $5,000 from bestselling author James Patterson  to support its school library. In addition,  Scholastic Reading Club  will match each dollar of Patterson’s donation with “bonus points” that the Book Club can use to acquire books and other materials. Rossford Junior/Senior High Library was selected amongst thousands of applications for funding. Rossford Board Seeks to Fill Penta Career Center Board Vacancy

The Rossford Board of Education seeks to fill one vacancy on the Penta Career Center Board of Education for a three-year term effective January 2017 through December 2019. Preschool Program Receives 5-Star Rating

The preschool program of the Rossford Exempted Village School District has been recognized as a Five-Star Program by the Ohio Department of Education and Ohio Jobs and Family Services.  The evaluation is based on a quality rating system called Step Up to Quality, which ranks public and private early childhood programs on scale of one to five.  Rossford’s public preschool program, which is housed at Glenwood Elementary School, earned the highest possible five-star rating. ACES Youth Ambassador Exchange (YAE) Program Coming to Rossford Junior High School

January 14-February 5, 2017

Non-profit American Cultural Exchange Service (ACES) program launched a very successful middle school exchange program five years ago called the Youth Ambassador Exchange (YAE) program.  Held in Northwest Ohio all five years, it is now being determined a very important educational program by the Chinese schools who participate in the event.  Experiencing another culture for Chinese middle school students is a significant way to learn how to adapt to global environments.  On January 14,  2017, at Rossford High School, the American Cultural Exchange Service (ACES) will bring 3 teachers and 36 Chinese 12 . . .

Rossford School District's Treasurer Reappointed to SERS Board

The Speaker of the House of Representatives and the President of the Ohio Senate reappointed James Rossler, Jr. to the SERS Board of Trustees for a term beginning November 5, 2016, and ending November 4, 2020. This will be Rossler’s fourth term on the SERS Board. His first term began in October 2004. During his tenure as a SERS trustee, Rossler has advocated for strong pension funding and continually backed public pension defined benefit (DB) plans while they have been challenged nationally. RHS SOS Club Members Participate in 5K Run/Walk

RHS SOS Club members volunteered at the St. Jerome 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, November 12. Students registered runners, assisted with timing, took photographs, and prepared snacks and beverages for the runners. Many participants and community members brought care package items for the troops, and half the event proceeds will be donated to Heroes in Action Military Outreach. The event t-shirt was designed by RHS senior and SOS Club member Samantha Barker. Her design was also used on the medals, which were reminiscent of military dog tags. RHS Chess Team Hosts Tournament

Thirteen members of the RHS Chess Team participated in the 13th Annual Frank Pokrzywa Team Chess Tournament on Saturday, November 5.  The event was held at Rossford High School with twelve additional teams competing in the event.  The team of Nicky Westdyk (7th grade), Nolan Kieper (7th grade), Zach Chiarelott (7th grade), and Kyle Kelley (8th grade) took third place, while the team of Evan Taylor (11th grade), Christian Tanicala (12th grade), Alex Chiarelott (11th grade), and Brady McManus (7th grade) came in fourth.  Zach and Kyle ended the tournament 5 and 0, each!  Also competing for RHS were . . .

Regan Clay Signs with Vanderbilt University

On Friday, November 11, Regan Clay formally signed her letter of intent with Vanderbilt University to run track.  Vanderbilt is a member of the South East Conference and is located in Nashville, Tennessee. Regan is a two-time state champion in the 400m Dash. This past year, she not only won the 400, she was runner up in the 200 (2nd year) and finished 4th in the 100m dash. Regan scored enough points by herself to finish 4th as a team at the Division II state track meet.
