Ohio State Tests Information (Online Standardized Testing)

Ohio State Tests, also known as AIR (American Institutes for Research) tests, are given to students in grades 3-11. This page has resources to learn more about these assessments as well as help prepare teachers and students for these relatively new online tests. Students are strongly encouraged to go through all of the practice tests that they are assigned to take.

Ohio State Tests 

  • ELA (English Language Arts) - grades 3-11
  • Mathematics - grades 3-11
  • Science - grades 5, 8, & HS Physical Science & Biology
  • Social Studies - grades 4, 6, & HS Government & American History

  • 4 & 5 Grade ELA Testing April 16-17
  • 3rd grade ELA Testing April 18-19
  • 4 & 5 Grade Math Testing April 23-24
  • 3rd Grade Math Testing April 25-26
  • 5th Grade Science Testing April 30-May 1

  • 6-8 Grade ELA Testing April 17-18

January 2017 Update:

Half-Length Practice Tests


A half-length practice test for Grades 4-8 is now available in the Test Portal. Previously, in fall 2016, half-length practice test for high school end-of-course exams for English Language Arts were released in the Test Portal. These items give educators and parents insight into the kinds of questions students will experience on the spring 2017 Ohio State Tests. Teachers can also use the half-length practice tests as a tool to inform classroom instruction.


Included in this release are the learning standards associated with each test item, the scoring rubrics, and item annotations that show what is required to score at each performance level. Examples of student responses are also available to illustrate actual work and the corresponding points earned on the student examples.
