Rossford Junior High: Parent Boosters: Meetings

August 13th Meeting

by Ferol Deleon

August 13th Meeting
Officers were nominated.  All were voted in unanimously.
~ The possibility of having some sort of "end of the year celebration" was brought up.  Possibly having some sort of cook out and games.  Beth Stolar mentioned having some big ticket items donated.  This idea will be re-visited as the school year progresses.
~ Beth Myers thought adding a tab to the junior high part of the web site might be a good idea so that more parents might get involved and have the opportunity to see what the parent boosters do.
~ We have a need for more volunteers.  Laurie Ann volunteered to create a sign-up sheet for 7th grade orientation in hopes of getting 7th grade parents involved so that we would have a database to pull from for volunteering.
~ Heather Schaffer asked about school supply lists.  We explained that there are tabs located on the school web site and it would be easier after her child received his schedule.
~ Kim purchased supplies at the request of Mr. Pierson to be available for Ms. Thomas for those students who may need them.
~ Miss Thomas will let us know if any student would like to attend the school dances but is unable to because of finances
~ The possibility of having some sort of recognition for students/teachers being "caught" doing a good dead was mentioned.  This will be discussed in future meetings.

Fundraisers
~ The first fundraiser will be the Entertainment Books.  Volunteers from the boosters will be at 7th grade orientation to hand out the Entertainment packets.  The packets and money are due back August 25th.  Kim mentioned needing help to coordinate book turn-ins and merchandise pass outs to the kids.  Beth Stolar, Laurie Ann and Beth Myers volunteered to help.
~ It was discussed selling candy grams and tattoos (continuing from last year) and possibly holding an OSU vs MI fundraiser later this year. Laurie Ann said it might be a good idea to sell the tattoos before school, and during lunches before dances and home games.

Dances
~ We had a discussion about the school dances.  The first school dance will be held September 4th.  It was decided to change the price of student admittance from $3.00 to $2.00.  The theme for the first dance is "Spirit Day."  The 7th and 8th graders will compete in a contest to see who can be the most spirited.  The grade winner will receive $1.00 off admittance into the dance.  The top three most spirited winners in attendance will receive free admittance to the football game.
~ Beth Myers will talk to the football coaches about allowing the players to attend even though practice is scheduled at the same time.
~ Mr. Pierson will have details announced during the announcements.
~ The need for volunteers was also brought up.
~ Laurie Ann will check on pricing of drinks at Costco and report at the next meeting.  She will also purchase one case of water for the school dance.
~ Concessions for school dances will be as follows:
Pizza $1.00 and Pop $.75.  We will have Cola, Sprite, Diet and Mountain Dew.  Water price to be determined according to the purchase price.  Candy bars will be $1.00.  We also talked about the possibility of having a food drive/school supply drive for free admittance to future dances.

Dodge Ball
~ Ann Miller is the coordinator for the dodge ball tournament.
~ The need for having sufficient volunteers was discussed.
Laurie Ann will provide a shift sheet for dodge ball parent volunteers to have ready for 7th grade orientation.  There will be four 3 hour shifts.

Cross Country
~ The first meet is October 5th.  We will be providing limited concessions as we have no electricity available to us.  We need volunteers.  The High School Boosters will be providing the tent if it is available on that date.

Meeting Concluded at 7:45 p.m.
In Attendance:  Kim Morelock, Beth Stolar, Beth Myers, Laurie Ann Carter, Mr. Pierson, Heather Schaffer, Steve Horvath, Deb Jacobs
