New Policies for Athletic Events

Rossford Junior-Senior High School is implementing a new safety screener for students entering school called Evolv Technology. This artificial-intelligence based weapons detection security screening, received by Rossford Schools thanks to grant funding, will be implemented for admission to sporting events as well.

We wanted to make you aware to plan accordingly as our Sept. 13 home game against Otsego will be the first time we are using the system for entry of the game. It will also be the first time we are using our new no large bags policy.

These are two important safety measures that are observed at many sporting events now, and we are implementing these procedures to have the same the level of safety for all of our spectators.

The Evolv screener will be located outside of the gates and a line will form for individuals to come through it individually. Unlike standard metal detectors you don’t have to empty your pockets for keys and wallet, the AI system scans for unwanted items. As you walk through, if the alarm goes off then additional screening will take place.

This new system is not as intrusive as metal detectors. No personal identification information is used for this system; it includes no facial recognition.

Please plan on arriving earlier than usual at least for the first game as this will take longer as we introduce the new system. For this purpose, the gates will now open at 5:30 p.m. instead of 6 p.m.

Evolv Technology's security screening system is used at many venues, including:
NFL Stadiums: Cleveland Browns, LA Rams, and New England Patriots
MLB teams: The New York Mets, San Francisco Giants, and Chicago Cubs
Other large venues: Kennywood, the Georgia Aquarium, The Columbus Crew (soccer)
Schools: Belmont University, Atlanta Public Schools, Columbus City Schools and Maynard Jackson High School.

Thank you for your support as we continue to prioritize the safety and well-being of all people attending our events.

No Large Bags Policy
We will no longer allow large bags through the gates. If your bag is 10 inches by 7 inches by two inches or smaller, it will be permitted. We will have a sign onsite displaying the permitted bag size. If the bag is larger we will ask you to return it to your vehicle. This excludes diaper bags for those with young children. This is a standard safety feature at sporting events now that we believe is important to implement.

No backpacks will be permitted to the stadium.

A reminder no alcohol, smoking or drugs are allowed on school grounds. That includes the stadium and parking lot. This is established by the Ohio Revised Code 3313.751.

Thank you for your support as we continue to prioritize the safety and well-being of our students and spectators.
