The Werner Family Foundation is pleased to announce Jonah Shafer as the first recipient of the Henry G. Werner College Scholarship. Jonah is the son of Ernest and Heather Shafer of Rossford, Ohio. He is planning to attend West Virginia University this fall to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Global Supply Chain Management.

The Werner family created the scholarship in honor of the late Henry G. Werner. Henry was a 1947 Rossford High School graduate, Ohio State Alumni, businessman, a longtime Rossford resident and founder of the Werner Family Foundation. Henry was the son of Henry Werner who was the President of the Rossford Savings Bank, President of the Rossford Board of Education from 1931 to 1953 and an active civic leader in Lucas and Wood Counties.

The Henry G. Werner scholarship awards annually one Rossford High School graduating senior a $6,000 scholarship, renewable for up to 4 years (up to a $24,000 award). This is the first renewable scholarship to be offered at Rossford High School.

Henry G. Werner Jr. and Marsha Werner Wofter on behalf of The Werner Family Foundation and children of Henry G. Werner presented the scholarship to Jonah on June 21 at Rossford Junior-Senior High School.

The Werner family would like to thank, Mr. James Rossler Jr., Rossford Schools CFO and Miss Kelsie Vaske, Rossford High School Guidance Counselor for helping to structure and award the scholarship.
